Braceborough

Start: Shillingthorpe (Via Greatford)

Time to Travel: 5-10 mins from Market Deeping

Length: Approx 6 miles

Time of walk: Approx 2 hours 

I could hear the whole family getting ready with their boots on and then phew there was my lead! I bounced into the back of the car, harness on and clipped in and off we all went.

Only a short distance and the car stopped. We’d travelled through Greatford, past the Hare and Hounds village pub and out on the road towards Belmsthorpe and Stamford. To the right there is a small lay-by with a fence and public footpath sign.

This is where our walk started. My tail was in over drive and I jumped out and couldn’t wait for what was in store on this walk.

Mum took us through the gate and over the river bridge. From there we just kept following the foot path signs up through the wooded area, off to the right and across the fields. The footpath is surrounded by private land so it’s important to stick firmly to the footpath (that’s humans and us dogs too!)

Eventually we arrived at a bridge at the roadside. Here we turn left and then immediately right, following the road round to the left towards Braceborough village.

On my lead we walked through the village. We walked towards the footpath which goes off to the left with a fence alongside it. Then off we all went following the clearly marked path all the way to Braceborough Woods. These are some of my favourite woods to walk in. They are usually super quiet and incredibly pretty.

From here you can make the walk as long or short as you want. You can walk anywhere within the woods so it’s a great place to explore away. We were lucky enough to see a herd of deer along our route and the woods also have some Badger sets. This route is rural so you’ll want to make sure everyone including your paw friends have coats and drying towels. There’s no shops out this way so making sure you have back up water and water bowl for us is essential too.

From the woods you can retrace your steps all the way back to Shillingthorpe. Alternatively you can walk on the road back to Greatford. There is also the option to park at the woods and just walk around the woods if you prefer.

Back at home from our Braceborough walk, I am beyond happy. I’ve had some treats, my tail is resting and I’m daydreaming of running across the fields, breathing in the most wonderful woodland smells. I wonder where Mum will take me next?
