Something which is often overlooked is your pet’s dental health and oral hygiene. This is a vital part of their overall health as dental problems don’t just affect the mouth but can cause serious secondary health complications and behavioural problems.

All puppies are born with natural instincts i.e. suckling from their mother, pack ehaviour, scent marking, hunting and survival. The part of the brain responsible for this is the hypothalamus which is part of the limbic system. If the dog feels threatened or frightened it triggers the ‘fight or flight’ response.

Pets can be contaminated by a number of different species of intestinal works. These parasitic worms can vary from a few millimetres to meters in length. They live inside the animal taking their nourishment from it, growing and breeding.

Fleas are the bane of an animal owner’s life if they can’t get rid of them, and they spread into bedding and carpets. They are small brown flightless insects that feed on the blood of mammals and can cause a multitude of issues including flea allergy dermatitis and the spread of disease. Their eggs are tiny, white and shiny.

Muzzles are used for a variety of reasons, but we strongly advise people not to buy them for controlling barking. This is very upsetting for the dog. Instead, get to the source of the barking and train them not to bark.
